This collection is an index to burial records from various churches and localities throughout the Netherlands. Records typically list the name of the deceased, burial date, and burial place. In some cases, the deceased’s age, birthplace, and names of possible relatives may also be listed. Source information is also provided to help locate the original record.<br><br>Church records are extremely important because they are the primary source of vital information prior to the institution of civil registration. In the Netherlands, most people attended either the Dutch Reformed or Catholic churches, but other denominations existed as well. This collection is an index to burial records from various churches and localities throughout the Netherlands. Please see the archive list below for locality coverage. Antonie van Leeuwenhoek - ScientistDelft, Netherlands
Antonie Philips van Leeuwenhoek is well-known for his work in the fields of microscopy and microbiology, and is considered by many to be one of the greatest Dutchmen of all time. Through the use of his handmade microscopes, Van Leewenhoek was the first to discover microorganisms, which he called “animalcules.” Van Leewenoek died at age 90 on 26 August 1723. He was buried 5 days later, on August 31st, in Oude Kerke in Delft.
